Caneiro cask

Aged cask

Viña Caneiro Barrica is crafted from carefully selected grapes grown in a single vineyard named Viña Caneiro, which is exclusively planted with the indigenous red mencia grape.

Situated in the Amandi sub-zone of the Ribeira Sacra, this vineyard has long been renowned as one of the best sites in the region.

Elaboration

Viña Caneiro is a steep, terraced vineyard, over 200 years old, covering one hectare of schist soils locally known as 'losa'.

The traditional Galician stone walls that terrace the vines slope down towards the Sil River, in one of the most picturesque and famous areas of the Ribeira Sacra.

The river imparts a sweet freshness to the grapes, cooling them during the hot days and giving rise to opulent Grand Cru-level wines with notes of dark fruit, exotic spices, and impressive structure.

Viña Caneiro Barrica is produced in very small quantities, selecting only the finest grapes from Viña Caneiro's vineyard.

Vinification

Following a manual harvest and careful selection of grapes placed in small boxes, the grapes are destemmed and crushed before undergoing spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks.

The resulting wine is then aged for 12 months in large French oak foudres.
